This collection consists of correspondence, financial documents, legal documents, a map, and official military documents, relating to the life and career of Francisco Reibaud. Letters contain comments about conditions in Mexico, and about prominent figures including Benito Juárez and Antonio López de Santa Anna. Included is a decree from Valentín Gómez Farías, interim Vice President of the Mexican Republic. Among Ribaud's correspondents is Ysidoro de la Torre.

Political leader and interim president of Mexico. Born 1781 in Guadalajara; died 1858 in Mexico City. Gómez Farías practiced medicine in Aguascalientes where he was magistrate of the municipal government. Other offices he held include: deputy to the congress of Cádiz (1812), deputy to the first constituent congress (1821), senator for Jalisco (1825-1830), and minister of Treasury (Feb.-March 1833). Francisco Reibaud was a Frenchman who served in the Mexican navy as an officer during the 1830s. He was Consul General for Mexico in New Orleans, La., from the 1840s until his death in 1861.
